Customs classification of expanded steel sheet 7314 50

CN code 7314 50 covers expanded metal of iron or steel (metal deployé). This is a steel product created by slitting and stretching steel sheet to form a regular diamond-shaped mesh pattern without material waste. Expanded metal combines characteristics of mesh and solid sheet - lightweight, strong and allowing airflow and light. Used as walkways, platforms, protective screens, ventilation screens, machine guards, architectural and filtration elements. Classification covers expanded iron or steel regardless of coating. Perforated sheet is classified separately. Aluminium expanded metal belongs to heading 7616.

Import requirements and CBAM for expanded metal 7314 50

Importing expanded steel sheet under CN 7314 50 into the EU is governed by the Union Customs Code. Since 2026, CBAM applies. Expanded metal in load-bearing construction may require CE per EN 1090-1 under CPR No 305/2011. Machine guard expanded metal should comply with EN ISO 14120. Required documents include a commercial invoice, material certificate, manufacturer specification and certificate of origin. REACH applies. Duty rates should be verified in TARIC.

Trade measures for expanded metal 7314 50

Expanded steel sheet under CN 7314 50 may be subject to EU trade defence measures. Safeguard measures under TRQ may cover products under heading 7314. Imports from Russia and Belarus are subject to sanctions. Anti-dumping duties from China may apply. The expanded metal market serves construction, industrial, architectural and automotive sectors. Preferential rates under EU FTAs may reduce costs. Total import cost includes duty, safeguard, CBAM and VAT.

Technical standards and certification for expanded steel sheet (metal deployé)

Products classified under CN code 7314 50 (expanded steel sheet (metal deployé)) must comply with applicable EU technical standards. Depending on their intended use, these may include harmonised EN standards for construction products (CPR Regulation 305/2011), the Machinery Directive or the Pressure Equipment Directive (PED). Construction products require CE marking and a Declaration of Performance (DoP). Customs authorities verify compliance with technical requirements during clearance and may withhold release of goods where required documentation or certificates are missing.
