Customs classification of galvanised chain-link mesh 7314 41

CN code 7314 41 covers chain-link mesh of steel wire, plated or coated with zinc. These are Rabitza-type chain-link fences made from steel wires interwoven in a characteristic diamond pattern with galvanic or hot-dip zinc coating. Chain-link fencing is widely used in agricultural, industrial, residential and sports applications. Classification requires woven chain-link construction and zinc coating. Plastic-coated chain-link falls under CN 7314 42, other chain-link under CN 7314 49. Welded galvanised mesh belongs to CN 7314 31. Barbed wire is classified under heading 7313. Standard EN 10223-3 defines requirements for steel fencing mesh.

Frequently asked questions

What distinguishes CN 7314 41 from CN 7314 42?
CN 7314 41 covers galvanised (zinc-coated) chain-link mesh, while CN 7314 42 covers plastic-coated chain-link mesh. The distinguishing criterion is the type of coating: zinc qualifies for 7314 41, plastic coating for 7314 42. Chain-link mesh without zinc or plastic coating falls under CN 7314 49.
Is galvanised chain-link mesh subject to CBAM?
Yes. Since 1 January 2026, galvanised chain-link mesh under CN 7314 41 falls within the CBAM mechanism. Importers must register as authorised CBAM declarants, submit quarterly emissions declarations and purchase CBAM certificates.
What standards apply to chain-link fencing mesh?
Chain-link fencing mesh should comply with EN 10223-3 for hexagonal and diamond steel mesh. Zinc coating should meet EN 10244 (wire coatings) or EN ISO 1461 (hot-dip galvanising). Zinc coating thickness determines corrosion resistance and fence durability.
What documents are needed to import galvanised chain-link steel mesh (CN 7314 41)?
To import goods under CN code 7314 41, the following documents are required: commercial invoice, transport document (CMR/B/L), certificate of origin (EUR.1 or invoice declaration for preferences), quality or mill certificate, and a customs.
