BTI (Binding Tariff Information) is an official EU customs decision confirming the classification of goods. Valid for 3 years, binding across all EU member states.

Classification of other welded pipes >406 mm - CN 730590

CN code 730590 covers other welded steel pipes with outside diameter exceeding 406.4 mm, not under subheadings 730511-730539. This residual subheading covers welded pipes with non-circular cross-sections (square, rectangular) or pipes welded by methods other than longitudinal or spiral. In practice, this subheading is used rarely as most large-diameter pipes are classified under specific subheadings. Large welded hollow sections are used in bridge construction, high-rise columns, power pylons and offshore structures. Produced from structural steel S235-S460 per EN 10219.

Import requirements for welded pipes CN 730590

Importing pipes under CN 730590 into the EU is subject to Union Customs Code. Pressure pipes fall under PED 2014/68/EU, structural sections under CPR (EU) No 305/2011. Required documents include commercial invoice, material certificate EN 10204, weld inspection reports, transport documents and certificate of origin. From 1 January 2026, imports may be subject to CBAM. Correct classification requires ruling out assignment to subheadings 730511-730539.

Trade measures for welded pipes CN 730590

Pipes under CN 730590 are subject to EU safeguard measures in TRQ form with 25% additional duty. AD duties may apply to pipes from China, India or Turkey. Imports from Russia and Belarus are subject to sanctions. Total costs include MFN duty, AD, safeguard, CBAM and VAT. Current measures in TARIC.

Technical standards and certification for other welded pipes above 406 mm

Products classified under CN code 7305 90 (other welded pipes above 406 mm) must comply with applicable EU technical standards. Depending on their intended use, these may include harmonised EN standards for construction products (CPR Regulation 305/2011), the Machinery Directive or the Pressure Equipment Directive (PED). Construction products require CE marking and a Declaration of Performance (DoP). Customs authorities verify compliance with technical requirements during clearance and may withhold release of goods where required documentation or certificates are missing.

Frequently asked questions

What standards apply to large welded hollow sections?
Welded structural hollow sections fall under EN 10219, pressure pipes under EN 10217. Material certificate EN 10204 is mandatory. CE marking is required under CPR for structural sections or PED for pressure pipes.
Are pipes under CN 730590 subject to CBAM?
From 1 January 2026, CBAM enters full operation. Welded pipes under Chapter 73 may be subject to CBAM. Importers should verify the current scope for 730590 and comply with registration and emissions reporting if covered.
Are other welded pipes above 406 mm under CN 7305 90 subject to anti-dumping duties?
