BTI (Binding Tariff Information) is an official EU customs decision confirming the classification of goods. Valid for 3 years, binding across all EU member states.

Classification and characteristics

CN code 610510 covers men's or boys' shirts of knitted or crocheted cotton fabrics. Knitted shirts are distinguished from woven ones by fabric structure. Cotton must predominate by weight. Cotton knitted shirts include polo shirts, interlock, and pique knit shirts. Classification requires confirming the product is a shirt rather than a T-shirt, and that the material is knitted with cotton predominance. The declaration should precisely describe the product with shirt type and fibre composition.

Regulatory requirements

Men's cotton shirts imported into the EU are subject to Regulation (EU) No 1007/2011. REACH restricts azo dyes, formaldehyde, and nickel in buttons. Shirts with direct skin contact have stringent chemical requirements. The GPSR (EU) 2023/988 requires product safety and responsible person designation. Care instructions compliant with ISO 3758 are required.

Duties and trade

Duty rates under CN code 610510 should be verified in TARIC. Cotton knitted shirts are a popular import category. Preferential rates may be available under FTAs or GSP. Documentation includes commercial invoices, origin documents, and packing lists. Rules of origin require double transformation.

Labelling standards for knitted shirts CN 6105 10

Knitted shirts and blouses classified under CN 6105 10 must comply with EU Regulation 1007/2011 on fibre labelling. Labels must include fibre composition in the destination country language, care instructions per ISO 3758, and size marking. For blended fibre shirts, each component exceeding 5% by weight must be listed in descending order. Customs authorities conduct documentary and physical checks on labelling compliance during import clearance.
