Classification scope of subheading 8531 80
Subheading 8531 80 covers other electric acoustic or visual signalling apparatus not covered by 8531 10 (alarms) and 8531 20 (LCD/LED indicator panels). This includes industrial buzzers and acoustic signallers, signal lamps and LED indicators, flash and strobe optical signallers, electric bells and gongs, vehicle reversing signallers, industrial machine alarm signallers and vibration buzzers. Key criterion: electric signalling device other than alarm or indicator panel. Classification is based on GIR Rules 1 and 6.
Regulatory requirements for signalling apparatus
Signalling apparatus under 8531 80 is subject to EMC (2014/30/EU), LVD (2014/35/EU) and RoHS 2 (2011/65/EU) with CE marking. Signallers for machinery are subject to the Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230. Maritime signallers are subject to SOLAS. Vehicle reversing signallers are subject to UNECE regulations. CBAM does not apply.
Customs duties for signalling apparatus
MFN rates for 8531 80 should be verified in TARIC. Signalling apparatus may qualify for ITA reduced rates or autonomous EU tariff suspensions. Preferential rates under FTAs may be available. Imports from Russia and Belarus are subject to EU sanctions. National VAT is charged.
Other signalling apparatus - classification scope
