Classification scope of subheading 8484 20
Subheading 8484 20 covers mechanical seals, precision sealing devices used on rotating shafts of pumps, mixers, compressors and turbines. A mechanical seal consists of rotating and stationary rings pressed together by springs creating a sealing gap. This includes single-spring, multi-spring, cartridge and double mechanical seals. Must be distinguished from flat gaskets (8484 10) and rubber seals (4016). GRI Rules 1 and 6 form the basis.

Importing requires compliance with the UCC. Mechanical seals for pressure pumps and compressors may be subject to PED 2014/68/EU. Food-contact seals must comply with Regulation 1935/2004.
