Classification scope of subheading 8484 10
Subheading 8484 10 covers metallic gaskets (gaskets with a metal core or metal layers). This includes metal-cored flat gaskets, spiral wound gaskets with metal strip and graphite or PTFE filler, ring-type joint (RTJ) gaskets, metal-clad klingerite gaskets and engine head gaskets with metal cores. Must be distinguished from mechanical seals (8484 20) and gasket sets (8484 90). The key criterion is the presence of metallic elements. GRI Rules 1 and 6 form the basis.
Import requirements (8484 10)
Importing requires compliance with the UCC. Gaskets for pressure applications may be subject to PED 2014/68/EU. Food-contact gaskets must comply with Regulation 1935/2004. Asbestos gaskets are banned in the EU. Documentation includes commercial invoice, transport document and technical specification with material certificates. VAT applies. Duty rates in TARIC.
