BTI (Binding Tariff Information) is an official EU customs decision confirming the classification of goods. Valid for 3 years, binding across all EU member states.

Classification scope of subheading 8485 10

Subheading 8485 10 covers ships' propellers and blades therefor. These are propulsion devices for ships, boats and other watercraft converting engine torque into thrust. This includes fixed-pitch propellers, controllable-pitch propellers, tunnel thrusters for port manoeuvring and propeller blades as spare parts. Must be distinguished from aircraft propellers (8803). The key criterion is marine or watercraft application. GRI Rules 1 and 6 form the basis.

Import requirements (8485 10)

Importing requires compliance with the UCC. Ship propellers must meet classification society requirements (Lloyd's, DNV, Bureau Veritas) for materials and strength. Materials must comply with EN and ISO standards for marine copper alloys, bronze and stainless steel. Documentation includes commercial invoice, transport document, material certificates and technical specification. VAT applies. Duty rates in TARIC.

Duty rates (8485 10)

Heading 8485 is residual - used only when the part cannot be identified with a specific machine. This requires a precise technical description in the customs declaration.
