BTI (Binding Tariff Information) is an official EU customs decision confirming the classification of goods. Valid for 3 years, binding across all EU member states.

Definition and scope of subheading 8414 70

Subheading 8414 70 of the Combined Nomenclature covers biosafety cabinets, fume cupboards and similar enclosures incorporating a fan or blower as their essential feature. This includes Class I, II and III laminar flow cabinets for working with biological materials, chemical fume cupboards, biological safety cabinets (BSC) for medical and pharmaceutical laboratories, and laboratory hoods with HEPA filtration systems. These devices protect operators, products and the environment from contamination by biological or chemical aerosols. The key classification criterion is a built-in fan or blower as the essential element. Enclosures without a fan are classified elsewhere. Classification follows GRI Rules 1 and 6. Where doubts arise, a BTI ruling is recommended.
